Department of European Language and Literature
Introduction
1. Russian Graduate Program
This major aims to cultivate integrated regional experts whose expertise encompasses not only Russia but also the former Soviet states and the broader Eurasian region. Building upon exceptional proficiency in the Russian language, the program explores Russian area studies, linguistics, literature, and cultural studies to foster the next generation of scholars who will lead academic advancement and ensure research continuity. Simultaneously, we seek to produce strategic practitioners capable of leading Korea-Russia relations and Eurasian cooperation within a rapidly evolving international landscape. We are dedicated to nurturing interdisciplinary intelligence that utilizes humanistic insight to solve complex challenges across political, economic, and cultural spheres.

2. Spanish Graduate Program
Spanish Graduate Program offers M.A. degree as well Ph.D. degree. It is composed of 3 divisions: Spanish linguistics, Spanish literature and culture, and Latin American literature and culture. We focus our education on enhancing students’ professional knowledge and profound understanding of Spanish and Spanish/Latin American literature and culture so that they can be specialists in the field and have an organic sense of the Hispanic world in connection with major political and social events in history. We offer courses in Spanish Linguistics, Spanish Fiction, Film Studies, Spanish Cultural Studies, etc. With this wide spectrum of knowledge, our students will be well equipped to serve as professionals such as professors in linguistics, cultural studies, Spanish literature, Latin American studies as well as translators, literary critics and diplomats.

3. French Graduate Program
The French Studies major aims to cultivate experts on Francophone regions, including key European Union member France, as well as Switzerland, Belgium, Monaco, Canada’s Quebec province, and 26 countries in Africa. Based on strong proficiency in the French language, the program seeks to nurture creative and ambitious global regional specialists through in-depth academic exploration of French linguistics, literature, cultural studies, and area studies.

Russian Language and Literature This field explores the linguistic and literary heritage of Russia and Eurasia. It focuses on the historical evolution and structural analysis of the Russian language, while providing critical perspectives on literary texts from classics to contemporary works. The program aims to cultivate scholars who can interpret the human condition and social dynamics through the profound legacies of Russian literature.
Russian Culture The Russian Culture field examines the multifaceted identity of Russia through its arts, religion, folklore, and contemporary popular culture. By analyzing a broad range of phenomena from classical traditions to modern media, the program fosters deep insights into the Eurasian region. It aims to train experts with humanistic sensibilities who can enhance cultural empathy and facilitate active exchange between Korea and Russia.
Russian Area Studies Russian Area Studies examines the politics, economy, and society of Russia and the CIS region from a geopolitical perspective. It focuses on developing practical capabilities to analyze the rapidly changing Eurasian landscape and propose effective strategic alternatives. The program aims to train regional experts who can navigate local specificities and lead substantive cooperation between Korea and Eurasia.
스페인문학 This course offers an introductory overview of literary theory and history, followed by an in-depth examination of major Spanish authors and their works, with a rigorous analysis of the political and social implications embedded within Spanish literary texts.
라틴아메리카문학 This course provides an introductory overview of literary theory and history, followed by an in-depth study of Latin American authors and their works, with rigorous examination and analysis of the political and social implications embedded in Latin American literary texts.
라틴아메리카지역학 Building on an understanding of Latin American history and culture, this course examines and analyzes contemporary political, economic, and social phenomena in Latin America.
French Literature This field explores French literature across its historical development, examining works by literary movements, genres, and authors.
French Linguistics This field studies the history of French linguistics, focusing on areas such as semantics, pragmatics, and phonetics.
French Cultural Studies This field examines France’s cultural policies,
current cultural and artistic landscape, cultural heritage,
and tourism-related content.
